Licorice (Glycyrrhiza glabra)—Growth and Phytochemical Compound Secretion in Degraded Lands under Drought Stress

چکیده

Water deficiency restricts plant productivity, while excessive soil moisture may also have an adverse impact. In light of this background, field trials were conducted in secondary saline (EC 6.5 dS m−1) at the experimental station Tashkent State Agrarian University (TSAU), Uzbekistan to determine drought tolerance licorice (Glycyrrhiza glabra) by exposure four levels water deficit, namely control (70–80%), moderate (50–60%), strong (30–40%) and intense (10–20%) relative content (WC) soil. The stress exhibited positive effects on morphological physiological parameters licorice, was considered be most suitable regime for cultivation. Plant growth under 50–60% WC treatment slightly higher as compared 70–80% treatment, exhibiting weak deficit promotes growth, root yield metabolite production. particular, metabolites i.e., ash, glycyrrhizic acid, extractive compounds flavonoids, tended increase however further intensification brought a sharp decline these values. These results contribute development cultivation technologies arid regions important consideration is restoration ecological economical functions dryland agricultural system.

Effect of Piriformospora indica inoculation on some morphophysiological parameters in licorice (Glycyrrhiza glabra L.) under drought stress

In the last years, there is a growing demand for plants used in traditional medicine. Licorice (Glycyrrhiza glabra) contains different phytocompounds, that have demonstrated various pharmacological activities. The endophytic fungus, Piriformospora indica, has been reported to enhance the growth of host plants and allow them to survive under abiotic and biotic stress. This study was undertaken t...

Study of Physiological and Biochemical Changes of Iraninan Licorice (Glycyrrhiza Glabra) under Salinity Stress in Filed Condition

Licorice is a medicinal and aromatic plant that is taken into consideration for its valuable compounds such as glycyrrhizin. Salinity is a major environmental stress that affects the crops productivity. In the present study, the effect of salinity stress (using  irrigation treatment with different salt concentrations; 0, 150 and 300 mM) on fresh weight of root and total plant, concentration of ...

Agonistic and antagonistic estrogens in licorice root (Glycyrrhiza glabra)

The roots of licorice (Glycyrrhiza glabra) are a rich source of flavonoids, in particular, prenylated flavonoids, such as the isoflavan glabridin and the isoflavene glabrene. Fractionation of an ethyl acetate extract from licorice root by centrifugal partitioning chromatography yielded 51 fractions, which were characterized by liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry and screened for activity in...

Mapping the world's degraded lands

Degraded lands have often been suggested as a solution to issues of land scarcity and as an ideal way to meet mounting global demands for agricultural goods, but their locations and conditions are not well known. Four approaches have been used to assess degraded lands at the global scale: expert opinion, satellite observation, biophysical models, and taking inventory of abandoned agricultural l...

Evaluation of Drought Tolerance in Safflower (Carthamus Tinctorius L.)Under non Stress and Drought Stress Conditions

This study was conducted to determine drought tolerance genotypes with superiority in different stressed environments. To screening quantitative indices of drought tolerance, genotypes of safflower (Carthamus tinctorius L.) were tested in a complete randomized block design with three replications under two different water regimes (irrigated and rainfed). Significant positive correlatio...
